PODCAST TRANSCRIPT

Laetitia Andrac  11:31

Hey, Angela, thank you so much for being on the essential shift podcast.

Angela Sanchez  11:57

Hey, thank you so much for having me.

Laetitia Andrac  12:00

Oh, my goodness. I am really excited for this conversation today, but before we dive into all the nuggets of gold that you're going to share with our listener, I'd love for you to introduce yourself as a human being. Who are you? Who is Angela? Not Angela as a business owner, but Angela the human being. So your background? What do you believe in? Anything about you?

Angela Sanchez  12:25

Thing, what a great question to start with, because I actually do find it hard to talk about myself from not a business owner. So I originally was born in Scotland, and we immigrated to Australia when I was three years old. And I'm so grateful that my parents actually did come back from kind of having a bit of fear going back to Scotland after immigrating and then saying, You know what? Okay, we've had Julie, my sister, and then myself over there, and we're going to make the move back again, because Australia has incredible opportunities. So I am always forever grateful. And I had a beautiful life growing up. I love my family. I've got a great family connection. And then I would say that I had never really had any religious upbringing as such, there wasn't any strong belief systems embedded in me when I was a little girl. But yeah, I don't know where, sort of where I am today or began, except for a little memory that I have in high sorry, in primary school, I was going for school captain when I was in year seven, and I was holding my little rose quartz love heart, which I actually didn't even know it was a rose quartz back then, but it was a glass pink love heart. And then my hear no evil, speak no evil, and see no evil, little monkeys that I was gifted from a family member that were, yeah, really solid copper, gold, or whatever it actually was. So it really meant a lot to me. And I felt like, for some reason, I was holding them on the school assembly when they were announcing and all I remember saying to myself was, I am going to be school captain. I am going to be up there receiving my, you know, award or recognition for taking over and going to be helping the school, you know, making more impact, which was pretty amazing when I think of how young I was to even want that. So I'm not really sure where it all sort of was embedded in the teaching perspective. But I think maybe from then, there was little seeds planted throughout my life of being connected to, you know, a higher source. And yeah, it probably wasn't until my early 20s that I probably got into, like, the law of attraction. I think the, you know, the books came out, the movie came out, and that was really, like, quite eye opening for me, and a really new area that I was instantly drawn to finding out more information of. And so, yeah, the vision board started the that power of positive thinking all began back in my early 20s, which is crazy, because now I'm 38 to know that I'm kind of like doing little things like this for my son now, who's only eight years old, I can't even imagine what's going to become possible for him in his future. You know, I've obviously come into the incredible contact with you about four years ago, and I feel like with different mentors that I've leaned into, but specifically when you came into my world, it really deepened that connection to what could become possible if we really tap into that for our personal and obviously going through because of your your niche into, like, the business side of things, and how we can really make magic happen in flow without overwhelm and and choosing things in correct cycles, you know. So it's been really wonderful. And I've had other people in my world as well, which is really nice, but I am always ever evolving. So yeah, I feel really connected to that universal power still, and it's nice to have people in my space, because I do need that accountability. Sometimes life is busy. I am a single mum, so that happened about three and a half years ago when you hurt had just come into my life, and you really did support me through such a dark time. And I'm, yeah, forever grateful for that, because I am kind of only now seeing the lighter side of it all, and I've just been doing the very best to keep the head above the water and continue, thankfully, to wake up with my purpose every day, because my business has was built prior to such a, you know, really hard time that I went through in my life. But that was one thing that actually, you know, I had to wake up each day and continue to show up for my audience, because my impact was far greater than kind of hiding in my little huddle and bubble every day. So yeah, if that's going to segue into what I do today, I am the creator, founder of beauty business CO which I've had for around eight years. I've been in the beauty industry for 19 years. So I was a therapist pretty much straight out of high school, and that led me into owning my business. I traveled over in the cruise ships and did all of the fun, crazy like traveling side to how amazing my industry can take me wherever I want in my life, and it led me back with my ex husband to Australia, and I worked for a company that was a skincare company, and I was in supporting business owners with building their businesses, with, you know, helping them with their retail sales and making more impacts and transformation with skin and all sorts of beauty. But I was always that motivation for the clinic owner when I came in. And I always used to sort of get told that, you know, I was so positive, and I really was that accountability and inspiration for what they needed to keep going. So when I was looking to start a family, I thought, Okay, well, I've got my salon on the side. I've got this full time role that didn't, unfortunately, have the opportunity for any kind of part time to go back after maternity leave back then. So I was asked a lot around how I did a lot of the marketing within my own salon to, yeah, to support them, like, you know, I wish I had something when I've when I had my child, and how did you do that promotional poster? So it really led me into what I do today in beauty business, CO and I feel like we've evolved into a bit of an empowerment brand for the beauty industry, which is really lovely to because I am so dedicated at empowering beauty business owners to believe that they can achieve anything if they set their mind to it. And you know, I feel like through my journey of learning, what I wanted to be teaching was always around that belief and mindset stuff, but I was also not like a mindset coach, or I hadn't done like NLP practitioner training or anything like that. But what also filtered through was a lot of the social media stuff. And the digital landscape was changing so much so I fell into and, of course, like a lot of mentorship in this as well, to finding my genius and really leaning into social media marketing for the beauty business owner, and then still intertwining that mindset stuff, which is really lovely. So I like connecting with people that are practitioners that can bring in, you know, those confidence building tools to my community. So, yeah, I do have a mentorship platform for the beauty business owner and teach them social media skills to build that confidence to show up authentically for their brand. And then alongside that, I have my annual retreats, which really brings that virtual connection to in person transformation and make sure that they are living a life on purpose for not just their business, but for their families and who they want to show up for in their day to day life as well. So it's a bit fun.

Laetitia Andrac  21:06

It's very good. And you know along the way, having witnessed you for the last four years now, moving through what you call a dark patch, when actually it was more a recalibrating to who you are now, and embracing this new version of Angela without many more version to come. And this is where I think all the things that you've learned and you tapped into during that time are actually now empowering your customer, your community, this beautiful space that you've created for empowerment. And I think when we are stuck in those moments of difficult personal life, we don't see the silver lining. It takes a bit of time to see it, but having holds a sacred space for you and a safe space for you to navigate through all of this. And I know that at the time, I couldn't tell you this is silver lining, and this is going to be the gold, but today you can see the gold because everything you went into, all the things that you dive deeper in, are basically today what you can help other ways. And I really think that a lot of people don't want to go through dark. It's just one the light and the beauty, when actually the dark is where the magic lies.

Angela Sanchez  22:24

Absolutely kind of sucks while you were in it. I totally don't love it, but I get what you mean, because I know those moments of when we were together and you were really holding space for me, it was like I it's like, I could kind of see it, but I couldn't feel what it would be like yet, you know, like, I want that. I know that that is possible for me, and I think that's obviously from a lot of the personal development that I have done. I knew it was something that was for me and not happening to me, but it was just hard to know what it was going to feel like on that other side. And I'm not there all there yet. Of course, it's, you know, being a mum and co parenting, doing that juggle. There's always challenges that come up when you're not in complete alignment with parenting values and different things like that. But yeah, I can just honestly say I'm doing the best that I can,

Laetitia Andrac  23:24

and you are, and you truly are, and you're showing up for your community with such an impact and such a passion. I just love this about you, because nothing can take you down from showing up, and it's actually a beautiful segue to some things that I wanted to cover with you today is, how do we show up on social media when actually we have all of this happening in the background? Because whether you're listening to this and you're a beauty business owner, and by the way, if you're a business, beauty business owner and you haven't heard about Angela, just go and check her work. Everything is in the show notes. But if you're even if you're not a business, a beauty business owner, and you're listening to this, this is relevant for you. We have so much thing happening behind the scene as a business owner and with a different hat and roles that we decide that we'd like to carry or wear, or that are pushed on us to carry or wear. How do we show up authentically every day with your passion. Because even when you were going through all of this, there were not a day that I haven't seen you showing up. So what can you say to anyone listening to this who's always finding an excuse to not show up

Angela Sanchez  24:39

Absolutely? Well, there's definitely gold in batch recording.

Angela Sanchez  24:45

That's a good dip. That's a good you know what? There

Angela Sanchez  24:49

definitely were days where, and there still is, like, you know that 24 hours before my bleed comes, I am so tired and I really don't want to, like, I even looking in the mirror, even after I've brushed my hair and put makeup, I look in my the mirror going, you know, like, it's that moment where I'm just like, I'm not showing up today, right? But because I have something from, like, a batch recorded that I can put out there that's serving my community. I can definitely do that. I'll probably say also that it is actually okay not to show up in a day. I'm not saying that we'll batch recording so you've always got something like, give yourself permission. I think I'm trying, because I'm so into social media that it's something that I really don't get burnout from like, I probably do way more than what someone else may do. And get burnout with like I probably kind of climb up the full mountain before that happens, and that's just my personal attachment with it. But I am also learning to have better boundaries there as well, knowing that I don't have to be switched on all of the time, and it is okay to have a day off. So I just truly want everyone listening to say, and if you're having an off day today listening to this podcast, well, hopefully you know you're doing something fulfilling, walking on the beach, or if you're not feeling very well, go out and do that, and don't worry about having to record the little selfie of the waves because, you know, it's fine to just totally block it off, right? Um, the other way I truly believe, though, is that if you continue to show up as your true, authentic self every day and not be someone you are not, or the only time you do show up is when your hair's done and when your makeup is done, because that's not real life, especially with a lot of us being digital entrepreneurs. I know that for me, obviously my audience are beauty business owners. So you might say, Oh, well, they're at work and they're doing their makeup every day to feel good about coming on camera. And that's not always the case either, but when I'm speaking to your audience, it's like, well, a lot of the time it's pretty lonely. We're behind our laptops a lot of the day, or we are on our phones a lot of the day, just kind of working away, right? And so if you are showing little snippets of your normal day to day life where you are not fully done. That is also going to make it a lot easier for it to be okay when those darker days are for you to actually show up with vulnerability. There's been many days, and this is again, it's a personal choice. You don't have to show your kids on social media, you don't have to show up if you're crying, you don't have to take a selfie, but if you feel that you want to have that little connection with your audience and take it a step deeper, the more you lean into vulnerability, sharing difficult hardships within business, something that you know can not be working well for you right now. It's like we don't want to continue with the negative talk every day to your audience, but that's something that can actually fuel another person, to inspire them to know that, oh, well, I just thought it was me, you know. And know that life isn't always rosy or like what the Instagram highlight reel generally always looks like. So, you know, you generally get a bit of a spike in engagement when you show up vulnerably, because we are more attached to reaching out when someone's not feeling well or something's not going well within someone's business, rather than cheerleading them on when they're highlighting The aha moments of success, which is interesting, right? We should all be empowering and making sure that we are cheerleading in the good and the not so great moments as well. So they would be my, be my three biggest areas, batch recording, making sure that you give yourself permission to say it's actually okay to have some time off. Because, yeah, you probably aren't going to show up in the energy that you want to bring. So just allow that, right? And then I guess the other side is, when you are having a better day, make sure that you press record, you know, like, if you're if you're having downloads, and you know that your show like I had shared, like you're showing up authentically every day. Then because your makeup is not on, because your hair's not done up, done on, you're more likely to have a download or an aha moment that you feel my audience would really benefit with this. And then pressing record is like, well, I can't not, because this is so amazing, and you're going to come with that energy, because you're feeling in the moment. So I really feel that that's quite powerful as well, and it's going to be a lot more powerful if you just show up
